Tricky Robots

First, my old blog got horribly spammed. So, I decided to moderate all incoming comments (once a comment is approved, that user can post all he likes). Now, if a human spammer were looking at my dead blog, he’d realize there are no readers and not bother spamming it. But I’ve recently gotten two comments on that blog (I have not approved them) that, from the URL they left and the whois on their IP, are obviously from a spammer robot. It’s a surprisingly intelligent robot, though. The two recent comments (the unstoppable torrent of spam stopped immediately when I turned moderation on) read as follows:

“Could you please send to me the contacts of developer of your site? It looks so damn good!”

and

“Hello, I’m a regular visitor to your site so i finally decided its time to sign your guestbook, so here i sign !”

So, the robot has detected not only that I’m moderating comments, but also that my moderation system will allow him to spam all he wants if I approve one of his comments. So, whoever scripted the bot wrote a few innocuous messages to bait me to let his comments through.

Good grief. People will stop at nothing to put out a few ads on an unread blog.
